A single oversight policy applied to a 7-year-old and a 16-year-old makes no developmental sense. The appropriate level of monitoring scales with age — more direct oversight when children are young and less capable of self-regulation, more privacy as they develop the capacity for autonomous emotional processing.

Teenagers who know they have privacy with the AI will be more honest with it — which makes the AI more useful for their development and more effective at flagging genuine concerns. Surveillance at this age destroys the safety net it purports to create.
